Union Square Apartment

Manhattan

Description

This 1,900 square foot apartment is a combination of two adjacent units renovated to create a city residence for a couple and their two sons. With the addition of an adjacent studio apartment the floor plan was completely reworked to satisfy the client’s program beginning with a separation of public and private spaces and including a new open kitchen that connects directly to the dining area and a large eat-in booth. The master bedroom was relocated to accommodate a separate living room, and the former master bath was then divided into a powder room and a ‘mudroom’ closet accessible from the entry which remained in its original location. A new private hallway connects the existing study/guest room, full bath, and boys’ bedroom to the new studio apartment which became the master suite. Within this suite is a beech wood paneled work area, dresser, and closet for the husband, and the wife’s dream walk-in closet complete with crystal chandelier. A distinct visual transformation was achieved by the use of saturated colors, lively materials and furnishings, custom cherry wood doors, and new hardwood floors in place of white paint and standard parquet floor tile.
